If you’ve been following me on Twitter you’ll know I, like every Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D fan out there, have been obsessing over the season 4 finale. I mean you don’t get any cooler than the character of Ghost Rider do you? The flaming skull transformations, and of course the epic return with the chain & fight sequences, Gabriel Luna aka. Robbie Reyes definitely stole the show for me this season. The only other character I might have a slightly more affinity towards in the latest run of Marvel series’ is Frank Castle…but that’s a whole other story.
I decided to keep to an interpretation of Felipe Smith’s version of Ghost Rider from the comics, but still incorporate aspects of the show; Gabriel Luna was definitely going to be in it. 🙂 I know some people didn’t really like the new look of the Ghost Rider (in the comics) but I thought it was new and refreshing look. I didn’t know much about the Ghost Rider previously, other than the incredible art I’d see from older issues with Johnny Blaze and his bike. It’s been fun catching up on newer comics.
All-New Ghost Rider by Felipe Smith – Really liked these 2 volumes, check them out if you get the chance.
On the wishlist:
Daredevil by Ed Brubaker & The Punisher by Garth Ennis Omnibus’ have joined my wishlist, well for now anyways given the somewhat hefty price tag. The art alone is a motivator for me to get them. Tim Bradstreet covers for the Punisher is often a guilty pleasure of mine to get inspired, and a definite motivator to improve my own skills. 😀
The Anne of Green Gables series by Lucy Maud Montgomery were books I read in primary school; those thin $6.00 paperbacks (I believe from Bantam Books) with those lovely covers. I remember a couple of adaptations to the screen over the years, most notably the one with actress Megan Follows was probably the most popular among fans. I was therefore thrilled to finally get to see a new version come to a series from CBC, simply called ANNE. Living in Canada, we got to see the series last month before its premiere on Netflix, which was a bonus in its self. 🙂 Having finished watching the first season and hoping it gets renewed for a second, I have to say I’ve found a new favourite in my collection of period dramas. I love the new take on the series, everything from the cinematography, to the cast, and costumes. It’s a beautiful adaptation, so take a look if you get the chance.
I of course took the opportunity to create some artwork inspired by the series while I was watching the show…
Kindred Spirits, colour-pencils & markers on paper, 7×11″, 2017
The cast chosen for this show were all equally talented and need I say adorable in their own ways, but I thought I’d choose Amybeth Mcnulty (Anne) and Dalila Bela (Diana) for this piece.
Gilbert Blythe, markers and microns on paper, 7×11″, 2017
I think everyone reading the books remembers why we loved Gilbert so much when we were growing up; childhood crush, a sweet & memorable character, what else is there to say really? 😀 I think Lucas Jade Zumann was perfect for the role and satisfied everyone’s expectations; a hard role to take on, especially after the fans holding Jonathan Crombie’s version to heart all these years. I have to say though Lucas, just like the rest of the cast, has become a new favourite of mine.
You often don’t get enough time to catch up on your favourite TV shows, especially when working in the art industry and often its never-ending work hours. So, I end up binge-watching a lot of shows. Recently I got around to catching up with latest season of Supernatural. There are many actors/actresses I watch the show for (humour alone being a reason) but Mark Pellegrino’s Lucifer is definitely a big reason. As of the latest episode (S12e15) however, I think I might regret hoping that he gets to keep his ‘vessel’ permanently…
I used to do a lot of gothic-themed work back in the day, and lately I’m finding myself more and more interested in bringing that back into my work again.
This week I’ve been trying to get back to the regular morning warmups in my sketchbook. I don’t always use references for my work, but sometimes I like to do portrait-type drawings on some sort of toned paper to help improve my drawing abilities for future projects. The subject matter tends to be related to shows I’m watching, or something from a novel I’ve picked up. This week I was feeling the urge to draw Tom Hardy from BBC’s Peaky Blinders and FX’s Taboo, as I had just finished watching Season 3 and the first 3 episodes of the latter. From Wuthering Heights, The Dark Knight Rises, Child 44 and many more, Tom still continues to be my favourite actor out there. So it was a no-brainer when it came to this week’s sketches.
I decided to go with some of my favourite/memorable moments.

Tom Hardy really does steal the show every time. 🙂
